HP Laptop Short DST Failed ID; GLX82X-9PD901-XD7XHG-60X403

Need help getting this notebook to startup. Given to me by a friend and product is out of warranty. When i turn notebook on the following is displayed on screen: 

"Hard Disk Error
Please run the Hard DiskTest in System Diagnostics. 

Hard Disk 1 (3F1)
F2   System Diagnostics
For more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup"

After running a quick hard drive check the following is displayed on screen: 
"Testing Drive: 1
SMART Check: PASSED
Short DST: FAILED
FAILURE ID: GLX82X-9PD901-XD7XHG-60X403
PRODUCT ID: 4JB82UA#ABA
HARD DRIVE 1
Current Version: 1.21.0.0 - BIOS

Hi:

You will need to install a new hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

You may want to consider replacing the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).

After you replace the drive, you can use the HP cloud recovery tool to reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook on the new SSD.

You can download the software from the Microsoft Store.

If you have to use the utility on another PC, so you will need to enter your notebook's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed to make the recovery media.  But you can make the recovery media now, before you remove the drive.
