Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello, I have an HP Pavilion dv6t-6c00 laptop from 2012. It currently has two 4gb sticks of RAM that I would like to upgrade to two 8gb sticks of RAM to increase performance. That is simple enough and I know how to do that but I also would like to upgrade the original HDD in the laptop to an SSD storage because simple things like opening applications like the internet and games has gotten very slow over the past few years. I believe I know how to do this but I am unsure how to configure my laptop to work with the new SSD and am unsure what to do with my computer before upgrading it with my files and whatnot so my computer does not get wiped.

If anyone could provide my with product numbers or even links to the products on Amazon that I should buy (the RAM and the SSD) that would be greatly appreciated.

There is a manual called Maintenance and Service Guide on the following link

   https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-dv6-6c00-select-edition-entertainment-notebook-pc-s...

  1. For RAM: You can upgrade to 16GB as shown on page 5.  Page 60 shows you part # and how to add/replace RAM. You can also use RAM from Crucial, Samsung ...
  2. For SSD: Any standard 2.5" SSD's from reliable vendors should work. You only need to check the thickness. Please use 7mm (some are only 6.5mm) and I know 2.5" Crucial MX500 series SSD's come with spacers for 9.5mm therefore their SDD's will fit. I normally use Crucial or Samsung 860 EVO sometimes SanDisk. I've got no luck with Intel.

Regards.

If I replace the standard HDD with a SSD, will the computer still perform as normal or will there be issues? What do I do before removing the HDD and installing the SSD in terms of backing up information so it transfers directly onto the SSD?

It should run as normal. I've been doing this type of work for the last 10 years or so, at least once per quarter. What I (and most people do)

(a) Clone existing HDD to SSD, I have to tool but many people use USB enclosure (around $5 to $15).

(b) Swap HDD and SSD and use HDD as backup,

(c) Keep machine running with SSD for few days or a week,

(d) When happy, format old HDD and use it a an external HDD.

These are the exact parts I am planning on ordering. Please let me know if they will work for my machine. On the manual the RAM is stated as 1333 MHz but the only ones I could find are 1600 MHz. Will those work? The SSD I have found is 2.5inches and 7mm.
