It will not work, the name of the file gives an indication of the purpose of the file. Check this link and you will see so many different designes.

http://www.ebay.ie/sch/i.html?_trksid=p4069.m570.l1313&_nkw=Touchpad+Board+synaptics&_sacat=0&_from=...

The original problem was caused by flashing the TM2251 firmware on the TM2054. Hence, the TM2668 firmware is unlikely to work either. The 002 at the end indicates the update 1, 2, 3 etc...

In any case, it is the driver that make most of the difference, they are currently at 18.1.15. with new functionality. some of which (like hand gestures) are not usable on my Touchpad, which makes upgrading pointless.

Other than cracking open our laptops, how can we tell what TM# our touchpad is?

HP Recommended

Yes, you can identify the Synaptics hardware using the Reflash executable.

Assuming the software is in C:\Synaptics>

1- Start CMD as Administrator and Change Directory to the folder containing the SynapticsReflash/SynReflash64 executable.

3- execute C:\Synaptics>SynapticsReflash /?   (to get a list of available options)

3a- execute C:\>Synaptics>SynapticsReflash /L   (for SP59628)

3b- execute C:\>Synaptics>SynReflash64 /T          (for sp65951)

You will then know which hardware are talking to, you can also use other options as you wish, but be careful.

Can you state what is your hardware id??

Point at the device from Device Manager --> Properties --> Detalis Tag --> Hardware Ids.

Copy the first value

post it in google and find who else uses the same hardware (Asus, Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba... etc..) find out if they have released a firmware or a fix and strip their package and use the firmware image.

Good luck. Simple.

The link below is for the PR1637232-tm2962-001.img, it may be a variation of TM2960.

You may wish to try it.

Check if the hardware id has changed?

I found the 2962 from Lenovo's grgy03ww_32.exe, try other manufacturers.
