I rely on the HP manuals heavily for my repairs. One thing I have noticed is that when you upgrade a processor on some notebooks the manual has you remove the motherboard. For example, I am currently changing out a processor on an HP Probook 6570b. According to the manual it requires a complete dismantle of the system. In reality all you have to do is remove the bottom cover, fan and then the heat sink. Its a simple procedure, yet the manual has you taking out the whole motherboard which is very time consuming. What is the reason for this? Am I damaging something by doing it the simple way? There is nothing being forced out when you do it the easy way. I am dumbfounded why HP has made a simple job so complicated.

Hi,

Yes. That is rather strange and unnecessary. Must be a mistake in the manual. If you look at the HP remove/replace videos (click on Processor in the list on left) we can see that the system board is not removed. So, no problem with your procedure.
