Context- Its been my goal to turn this into a somewhat usable laptop. Unrealistic? Maybe, but its a fun project. I am new to modifying/ upgrading laptops (despite what it may seem from the way Im about to reference the RAM), so please try to use laymans terms if possible.

So for the question. I have an 8gb DDR3 SO-DIMM ram stick I want to upgrade it with. I read that it can only take a max of 2gb for the ram... why? Can I upgrade it with 8gb anyway, and the other 6gb can go to waste? And Im getting a bit of conflicting info whether it takes DDR2 or DDR3 ram. Will it refuse to boot? Will it harm the laptop? I already have the 8gb, and dont want to get something else if this will do.

Hello Ernen, how are you ?

It actually has a maximum supported capacity of 2GB, if you add 8GB, the product will probably not start and will have a black screen.
