I am using a MacBook Pro and connecting to an hp monitor via a USB C cable. Sometimes when I plug in my laptop it charges the laptop and doesn't display the laptop screen on the monitor and sometimes it displays the laptop screen on the monitor but doesn't charge my laptop. I'd like to understand why this is occurring, how to predict it and whether I can have simultaneous charging and display (I have used another monitor connected via USB C cable and had simultaneous charging and display).

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Gaya1239, the model of the monitor is the HP EliteDisplay E273d.

It would help to have a diagram or explanation of your cable routing. You have to have a USB-C power supply, the MacBook and then the monitor. Where do you have the cables running and to which USB-C ports are they connected? The monitor has a built in docking station so you can actually get power coming out of the monitor if you are plugging the power into the USB-C port on the monitor and then running a USB-C from the MacBook to the other USB-C port on the monitor. The monitor has one USB-C port for the docking function and then one USB-C that is only for display input.
