Hey im looking into upgrading my laptop to use a ssd for boot because running off the 2tb hdd is just not working. Opening the laptop up it has a m.2 slot with a m marked on it. Reading online people say only ssd m.2s work but this on is the nvme format. Can i use nvme or whats going on?

Hi:

Your notebook only has support for M.2 SATA SSD's.

Every M.2 slot in every HP notebook and desktop PC has a M.2 slot with one key.

That is why it is important to read the service manual (chapter 1) to see what type of M.2 SSD is supported.

There are many posts on the forum where folks have installed M.2 NVMe SSD's in the 15-bs model series and 100% of them were unsuccessful in their endeavors.

i read the service manual and it didn't make sense, thats why im here. Looking at the port it only has an M on it. So im seeing if the manual was just a generic set made and my specific one has a different port.

You seemed to have missed the part where the manual describes the types of drives that are supported in the model series.

Chapter 3, page 3...

M.2 SATA-3 configurations (TLC) (not for Intel Pentium Silver N5000/Celeron N4000 processors):
● 512 GB
● 256 GB
● 128 GB
