Notebook 15-bs158sa

Hi all.
The LH trackpad button on this laptop is wobbly. It functions - clicks - perfectly, but feels as tho' the return spring on the button's LH end has failed or become displaced, so the button falls low at that end, and wobbles and rattles a fair bit.

Q - can the button be prised off safely from above, without damage, to expose the gubbins below? If so, I'm sure I can effect an easy repair without having to open the lappie.
Many thanks.

The laptop's touchpad is an integral part of the laptop's upper cover and not sold separately.

Prying it off comes at a risk, but it is your laptop and you can do whatever you want with it.

You can use the laptop's serial number to search in the HP PartSurfer to fin the part number for your laptop's specific upper cover.  Here is a link tot the HP PartSurfer web document

Replace the upper case and the issue will no longer be present.

You can have it repaired at a shop, since the laptop is out of warranty.

An almost complete disassembly will be required to effect the replacement.

Thank you.

Yes, I've seen complete new covers available for a pretty reasonable sum, and if the trackpad buttons didn't actually function I'd do this. But, it's really just a cosmetic issue and the buttons works perfectly, but feels obviously 'loose'.

I was hoping someone had actually tried this 🙂

Unfortunately, I have never heard of anyone trying to repair a touchpad that was integral to the top cover.

Thanks, Erico.
