HP Notebook - 15-da2019tx
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I have an "HP Notebook - 15-da2019tx" laptop. It came with 8GB RAM originally installed, I want to upgrade the RAM. I understand there are 2 memory slots available. I"m trying to find what is the maximum amount of RAM it supports but finding conflicting information (16GB or 32GB). Can someone please confirm what's the max amount of RAM supported? thanks

Hi:

HP only has the service manual for the previous model series.

HP 15 Laptop PC Maintenance and Service Guide

Chapter 1 of that manual indicates the maximum memory is 2 x 16 GB.

It is a known fact that even the older models with the Intel 8th generation core processors supported 2 x 16 GB of memory so there shouldn't be any reason why the 15-da2xxx model series with Intel 10th gen core processors couldn't do likewise.

You can run this command to see how much memory your PC can support:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and press the enter key.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Your notebook uses DDR4-2666 CL19 or DDR4-3200 CL22 memory.

The DDR4-3200 memory will run at 2666 MHz.

Hi,

Thanks for your prompt response, much appreciated.

"wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx" command actually does show that max allowed is 32GB.

My confusion is that the service guide that you've given a reference to as well (HP 15 Laptop PC Maintenance and Service Guide) says that max supported is 16GB (e.g. 8GB + 8GB). Some people have commented in another forum that while 32GB may be supported, but HP somehow limits to 16GB through BIOS. Do you know if WMIC says 32GB they we can reliably say that it will work?

Thanks and Regards

You're very welcome.

There are reports of other forum members installing 32 GB of memory in the 15-da notebooks with the 8th gen core processors and it worked with no problems, so it should work with the Intel 10th gens as well.

The Crucial memory report for your notebook also indicates it will support 32 GB of memory:
