Hello. I am having charging problems in my HP Notebook. Whenever the battery percentage hits 80%, the charging indicator is turns white from orange, and the charging stops even if the battery is not fully charged. The battery icon on my desktop shows "Plugged in: Charging" but the percentage stays 80%. I ran Hardware Diagnostics UEFI on battery, AC adaptor. It shows "Passed" when the device is charging, but as soon the indicator turns white (percentage stops at 80%), the test shows " Battery Check: Primary- OK (0), Primary: Logic State- OK (0), Charge State- Not Available", with a warning sign. And, I have no idea what that means.
So, can anyone please tell me what's wrong?

Hi @Sayan2000,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with your laptop's charging system, and the diagnostic results indicate a problem when the charging indicator turns white at 80%. There are several potential reasons for this behavior, and here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
- Check Power Settings: Ensure that your power settings are configured correctly. Sometimes, laptops are set to stop charging at a certain percentage to prolong battery life. You can adjust this setting in your power plan settings.
- Battery Calibration: Try calibrating your laptop battery. This involves fully charging it and then letting it completely discharge. Repeat this process a couple of times to calibrate the battery gauge. Some laptops have built-in tools for battery calibration.
- BIOS/UEFI Update: Check if there are any BIOS or UEFI updates available for your laptop. HP often release updates that address battery and charging issues.
- Update Device Drivers: Ensure that all your device drivers, especially those related to power management and battery, are up to date. You can find these updates on the HP support website.
- Battery Health Check: Many laptops come with built-in battery health check tools. Use these tools to get more information about the overall health of your battery.
- Check for Windows Updates: Make sure your operating system is up to date with the latest updates and patches. Sometimes, system updates include fixes for battery-related issues.
- Run HP Support Assistant: HP laptops often come with a pre-installed tool called HP Support Assistant. Run this tool to check for any system or hardware issues and follow the recommended solutions.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
