Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hi,

After digging through my old laptop pile. I found my old one. I tried starting it up, using the original battery and power supply and the laptop does not even show my the boot screen/menu. I can hear a high frequency sound coming from the CPU.

I remember the CPU getting really hot and a small pop sound along with it.I have even removed the panel and the heat sink (just a metal plate 😞 ) just to see what was really the sound, it is definitely 100% the CPU making that odd sound.

I have researched and many people say its the fan. This model does not come with a fan! That was probably why the CPU overheated. The warranty for this expired a year ago. I really don't want to throw this away or sell it. Anything I can do?

@LtAlex Welcome to HP Community!

I have a few recommendations:

  • Updating your Notebook computer BIOS

  • Keeping notebook air vents clear and clean

  • Increasing the efficiency of the notebook to reduce heat

  • Using Windows Task Manager to identify corrupt processes

  • Selecting power saves settings to shut off your computer when it is not in use

Please refer to the following link to the boot option.

Like I said, the laptop does not boot at all. It is just a blank screen and a continuous high frequency sound is coming off the CPU.
