HP Notebook - 15-af130nr (Touch) (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The fan on my computer is constantly blowing out air / hot air. Let me begin by saying that if this is not going to cause any damage being used with this happening, please let me know and my problem is solved. Otherwise, I don't want to continue to use the computer with the fan constantly blowing if it's going to cause further damage to my computer. I looked extensively through HP's different help links including one for this specific problem. However, there are so many  possible "fixes" that I don't know which is the right one. I have tried several of the simpler things which include:

1. Blowing canned air into the vents to get the dust out.

2. Checking the CPU usage through the task manager (There are many things running with high percentages but they mostly seem to be main important things that the computer has to use. The HP site I looked at said that even 3% - 4% usage could be considered high if constant; mine was around 33% last I checked. The things running constantly change percentage amounts, shifting position of which is using more than the other.)

3. I downloaded HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows and ran both the quick test and the extensive test, both passed for every aspect.

The HP site that I viewed for help also stated that updating the BIOS is a possible fix for my issue, however it seems to be a risky option considering all of the things HP is saying may possibly go wrong by doing so. In HP Support Assistant, I do have "Updates Available" messages showing me one for "HP Notebook System BIOS Update (AMD Processors)" and another for "HP Wireless Button Driver". I considered updating the BIOS through here, but on one of HP's links about updating the BIOS, it tells you to disable Bitlocker, which I cannot find anywhere in my computer (it shows up on another laptop I have but not this one).

Lastly a piece of information that I do not know whether or not it will help with this. In the past, I had an issue with my computer and I had another person fix it for me. They fixed my issue (to the best of my knowledge) and they mentioned something about hard drives, ones that spin and something called an SSD. My computer had one of those kinds and the person replaced the one type with the other type, but I don't know or remember any other specifics. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with my fan troubles. Please help, and thank you for reading.

Welcome to HP forums, I see that the fan on the notebook is continuously blowing hot air and you have tried multiple troubleshooting steps.

Follow the below steps to fix this issue.

  • Ensuring proper space for ventilation
  • Update bios with the steps mentioned in this HP document:- Updating the BIOS
  • Using HP CoolSense technology
  • Placing the notebook in a cooler room
  • Run a diagnostics and check for any hardware failures:- Testing for hardware failure
  • If the hardware has failed, capture the failure ID and revert for further assistance.

If the Fan is Noisy and Spins Constantly, PC is Warmer than Normal: Click here for more details.

Let me know if that helps.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.

I spent a great deal of time specifically writing out all of my issues and what I have tried, and it seems as though that has been disregarded. Every one of the links that you provided are the exact ones I was already talking about having looked at. Every one of your suggested "steps" I have either already stated I tried, or I stated that I have an issue with doing it for some reason or another. In response to your suggested "steps":

  • There is plenty of ventilation, and this was something I had already checked.
  • When I mentioned updating the BIOS, I was referring to having seen this link that you provided already. I stated that I a) was concerned that updating the BIOS seemed risky and I would like some feedback on that statement, b) I coincidentally have an update for the BIOS available showing in my HP Support Assistant notifications and was asking whether or not I should update through there, regardless of what the link states and whether or not that BIOS update had anything to do with my issue, c) I considered updating the BIOS from the HP Support Assistant as stated, however in the same link I have been mentioning (about the BIOS), it tells you to disable Bitlocker before updating. I cannot locate Bitlocker anywhere on my notebook. I have located it on another laptop, but doing the same process on my notebook yields no results. So, my question about that is, what do I do?
  • I already looked into using HP CoolSense technology, which is not available for my device.
  • The notebook is already in a plenty cool enough room.
  • I specifically stated that I already ran diagnostics checking for hardware failures. I stated which tests I used and their results.

Your response was not at all helpful in that it just restated everything I already had mentioned going over looking at HP's Support links. The last link you provided is the very same one I used, and following that list of possible fixes is how I wrote out my initial issue, stating that I looked into each and every one of these points.
