My Omen is doing the same thing, only with mine the separation is at the hinges on the left; in other words, the plastic frame around the screen seems to be getting caught on the hinge that attaches it to the keyboard. My question to the OP is (as mine just started doing this recently) is it only a cosmetic issue or can I expect to have trouble with the laptop itself down the road?
I don't love this laptop by any means, but I spent way too much money on it to be blase about this.

From what you've described, yours seems to be a more common issue than mine. I found it a lot when trying to find information on my issue (of which there was none).
Here's one of many forum posts:
This clearly isn't a very well designed notebook. HP has 'repaired' my unit 3 times and it is faulty once again. How many times will they replace the LCD before they realise it's a problem with the case/design?
