Microsoft Windows 11

I have a hp omen 15 (ryzen 5 4600h and gtx 1650) which is one year old. Since last Friday, I have been having an issue where the CPU starts throttling whenever I try to play any games while charging. HW Info shows PROCHOT EXT is triggering but temps are around 60 C. I have seen a few old Reddit threads and forum posts talking about this issue but I haven't found a solution yet. Please help.

Unfortunately I don't have the time to do an extensive test right now. I will post the extensive test results when I find the time to do it.

Hello @Zector1010

As you can see from the test result, the charger does not perform what it should and needs to be replaced.

Battery results are ok.

Keep me updated.

Kind regards

Can you please link a suitable AC adapter which I should be buying? I have been searching online but cannot understand which ones are compatible. The laptop model is 15-ec1024AX.

Hi,

I'm seeing the same issue with a HP Omen with 4800H and GTX 1660ti, I have tried everything I can think of, bios updates, bios rollbacks, driver reinstalls, Windows refresh, also run the HP UEFI diagnostics and it came back clean.

No matter what I do PROCHOT EXT seems to kick in when charger is plugged in, I even unplugged the battery to see if that made a difference but still the same.

I have noted a spike in the package temperature reading when plugging the charger in if the CPU is under load, personally I think it might be VRM related so I'm going to try to raise with HP.

Please post if you have any luck fixing.

I have spent the last few weeks trying to fix the issue. Turns out the adapter is fine. I took the laptop to a HP service center and after checking they said that it is a problem with either the Power IC or the gpu. Whatever the problem is ot will take time to fix and I need the laptop for work rn so I haven't fixed it yet.

Thanks for the update, I also suspect it is potentially an issue in the power circuit, I have another PSU and the laptop has the same issue.

I am going to try to raise a support call with HP (not an easy thing to do 😞 )

I'll post an update if I find anything.
