Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, last week I bought a new supposedly 2023 model of HP Omen 16 which has i7 13620H, 16GB DDR5 and RTX 4060... First 3 days it worked normally but now I play a game, lets say Assetto Corsa, the game is running fine, fans ramp up gradually accordingly to CPU/GPU temps... BUT when I exit the game, Fans are stuck at like 5600 RPM, temps are all the way down at 40 degrees celsius and fans wont slow down unless I slow them down manually trough Omen gaming hub... When I play Red Dead Redemption 2, fans do the same except it takes like 5 minutes being iddle before they ramp down to 4000 RPM which is still quite high and yet again I have to set it manually... IDK what went wrong but it does this in any game... This started happening after I updated all the apps and installed everything that I was prompted to install like that Omen gaming hub and so on... GPU drivers and windows updates I installed on day one which everything was still normal...

Also automatic thermal control in Omen gaming hub doesnt work as it should in my opinion... when I set balanced or performance, the fans spin at constant 5000 RPM which is apparently the lowest option... and to force fans to go down to normal torelable speed so it would not sound like a jet taking off while iddle, I have to set it manually to make it stop... lowest speed is 30% for some reason, which is odd cuz my other HP laptop can go even lower and it also has i7 but paired with AMD GPU (its a probook series) so that being said, what am I supposed to do to prevent insane loud fan noise and speeds while iddle? I do understand that they should run higher speeds after turning off the game for a bit before it goes down but unlimited time after exitting Assetto Corsa, 5 minutes after turning off RDR2 and still not going down enough and 5K RPM automatic iddle and forcing me to reset it every single time after a gaming session seems kinda wack... Sooo if anyone has a solution, it would be nice.

And then another thing, for some reason, I cant put the laptop to sleep sometimes... One moment I have to leave so I click "sleep" and it goes to sleep, I come back its still sleeping, another time I click "sleep" it goes to sleep and in 5 minutes it wokes up like nothing happened and its even unlocked even tho I did set it in a way that after wakeup I should still input my pin code, and another time I put it to sleep and it turns off my screen and keeps running... All this happens on random, sometimes it goes to sleep with USB devices plugged it, sometimes unplugging them forces the sleep, sometimes unplugging them does nothing and it still doesnt want to go to sleep and so on... I really dont want to "turn off" the device all the time, I never turn off my device since I am on PC all the time, even when im at work, PC home is either asleep or doing some task and turning it off usually ruins all that I had as a work in progress cuz most of it is pain to save and later on reopen, like for example sometimes saving a model in blender, reopenning afterwards the saved file breaks my textures (cuz I work with special models that require JP names and blender doesnt read japanese that well)...

So thats that, these 2 main issues I kinda need solved... but mainly the fan issue...

Also this is more like windows related but there is this thing when microsoft edge is randomly opening on home page so if we solve stuff above, we can talk about this too.

Hi @Bumpy86,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues with the fans on your HP Omen 16 laptop getting stuck or not functioning properly after exiting a game, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Update drivers: Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your graphics card and chipset. Visit the HP support website for the most up-to-date drivers.
  • BIOS update: Check if there are any BIOS updates available for your laptop. Sometimes, BIOS updates can fix fan-related issues. Again, visit the HP support website for any available updates.
  • Reset power settings: Open the power options on your laptop and set it to "Balanced" or "High performance" mode. Sometimes, power-saving settings can interfere with fan operation.
  • Check fan settings: Open the HP Omen Command Center software on your laptop and check the fan settings. Make sure the automatic fan mode is enabled. You can also try manually adjusting the fan speed to see if that resolves the issue.
  • Clean the vents: Over time, dust and debris can accumulate in the laptop's vents, causing airflow restrictions and potentially impacting fan performance. Use compressed air or a soft brush to clean the vents and ensure proper airflow.
  • Reset the laptop: If none of the above steps work, try performing a system reset on your laptop. This will restore the system to its default settings, potentially resolving any software-related issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Oh so what you are trying to say is that I buy a new laptop and I am expected to clean it after few days of use? Oh please stop joking around mkay? Clearly the "Omen gaming hub" is the problem and that is what is messing up them fans and everything so you either give me a clear instructions on how to fix it instead of a generic response or else next time I wont even consider getting any HP product... MSI already pissed me off with stuff like this, which is why I returned the MSI laptop and bought the one from HP and now I regret getting an HP laptop too cuz to fix fan issue on few days old laptop I am supposed to clean it already, factory reset the system and whatnot... and why the hell you even telling me such a thing? Is your IQ like 93 or what? You literally make a laptop, lock the bios out of anything that the end user can change which means I am stuck with whatever you decided to put there since bios is complete garbage, to play games I NEED TO HAVE EVERYTHING UP TO DATE CUZ HOW ELSE COULD I PLAY GAMES ON MICROSOFT BASIC ADAPTER INSTEAD OF A GPU and besided that, I explained step by step about all the fan control and "performance" setting and that "automatic fan" doesnt work and makes the fans spin at constant 5K RPM yet you tell me to fix that issue I should turn it on and then go deaf cuz of the loud fan noise... Just stop messing around and cut to the chase... TELL ME EXACTLY WHAT TO DO and stop talking about BS that any gamer or normal PC user already did since "support" is always the last resort when nothing works, everything is the way it should and problems are still there... I aint no 90 years old grandpa that has his windows XP machine broken down and needs help... I work around computers for over a decade and I still cant wrap my head around how can a big company just lock out normal users from custom settings on a laptop with a proper BIOS... also you tell me to update BIOS but when I go to the website and check BIOS update, it literally warns me that I should not install that update because it can cause instability of the system and whatnot... and the other version for download I already have soo... **bleep** are you talking about, IDK but cut to the chase and tell me what to do and read what I wrote carefuly and multiple times before you type something back... You have 3K conversations and only 88 thumbs up hence you aint most likely someone with a ton of knowledge to be even remotely able to assist with such an issue... especially if you treat a customer like if he was old senile grandpa...
