OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-ck1000 IDS Base Model

Hello, I am facing an issue while gaming with my new laptop from Omen. Even with ensuring proper space and cooling from beneath the laptop with different types of cooling pads, I am getting 89-100 degrees Celsius while playing games like Grand Theft Auto V with high settings, even though the CPU utilization is only around 4-6%. Even with low settings I am only seeing an improvement of 2 or 3 degrees less.

Games like overcooked does the same thing as GTA V with low settings.

I ran tests using Cinebench, and using single core resulted in 60-70 degrees while utilizing only 3-6%. On the other hand, the multi core test resulted in 97-100 degrees while utilizing 100% of the CPU.

The CPU is not overclocked or undervolted.

My specs are:

i7-12800HX

RTX 3080 TI

32 Gigs of DDR5 RAM

Do I have a problem with my CPU? Is it normal that it overheats like that while gaming and utilizing only a small portion of the CPU?

The GPU is doing fine, and the temperature is normal with full utilization.

Hello @Ub6424,

I noticed that my laptop's drivers are newer than the listed drivers, do you still want me to replace them with the mentioned drivers?

I have already downloaded all of them and I am only waiting for your confirmation.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hello @JoeEB

I have provided the official drivers from HP. If you have newer drivers (provided from <Microsoft Update>), keep them.

Hi @Ub6424

So now since I have the latest drivers, shall I only delete Omen software and try again?

Hello @JoeEB

Yes, uninstall <OMEN gaming hub> and test again.

Hello @Ub6424

I deleted the Omen Hub, but there is no possibility to add the Ultimate Power plan in my system.

I even tried using powershell and the command prompt, but the plan never appeared in the power options.

The only available plan is the Balanced one, but when I click on System from the start menu, then Power & Battery, the choice in Power mode is Best Performance.

I tried Cinebench r23 after the above, and the CPU temperature never went above 81c, but I get lower multi core scores, as if the CPU is not running on full power. I get 15K, while other people get 20-23K.

I just reinstalled Omen HUB and set it on performance mode, then I immediately noticed a huge performance jump and my Cinebench R23 score reached 19.6K while the temperature was between 95-98c, and the laptop was directly on a disk. When elevated for some time, the temperature went down 5c.

I am wondering why the performance is capped without Omen HUB, even though the power plan does not limit the CPU performance as the minimum and the maximum was set on 100.
