HP Omen 17-an019na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Hi All,

I've just purchased a HP Omen 17-an019na which has a Type-C USB/Thunderbolt port. I'm looking to set it up with a HUB that will allow me to plug one cable in for everything when I'm at home (Monitor, keyboard, mouse, power etc). I've found plenty of them online which have a power delivery passthrough to allow charging via Type-C.

Does my laptop support this? If so, up to how many watts? I've looked at the specs and can't find any information on this.

Thanks!

Hi! @Stokenash, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you would like to know if you connect a USB hub to USB-C port will you able power the devices.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

Have you tried checking with different USB devices?

As you mentioned you would like to know if you connect a USB hub to USB-C port will you able power the devices.

I have checked the specifications of your PC and your laptop was shipped with the following configuration.

3 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (1 HP Sleep and Charge)

USB 3.0 / USB 3.1 gen 1  Max power output 5V, 1.8A  Top speed of 5Gbps.

1 Thunderbolt™ 3 (Data Transfer up to 40 Gb/s, DP1.2, HP Sleep and Charge);

Top speed 40Gbps Max power output

Power (based on USB power delivery)
Up to 100W system charging
15W to bus-powered devices

So you can connect upto to 15w USB devices.

Refer the product specifications page for more information.

I need some info on the power of USB Type-C ports with Power Delivery supplied by PCs and laptops. Does HP have any PC and or Laptops that will supply more than 15W ? Do you know how common they are (or will be) and where I can get info on this ? I am in the process of designing a peripheral device and we will need more the 3A@+5V  but I am not sure if the intel  PCs and Laptops provide this ?

my huawei p20 pro charges with about 1.4A when i use a usb-c-to-usb-c cable vs. .5A using a usb-c-to-usb-a cable.
