OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-ck1000 (509W4AV)

I have tried to connect my laptop to a HP Thunderbolt 4 G4 dock, but it does not seem to use/operate in the thunderbolt protocol. All my devices (HID and displays) do work correctly, but I get no ethernet connectivity. After digging deeper, I am unable to find the thunderbolt controller in the device manager, windows reports everywhere that the dock is connected over usb3/4 and the intel's thunderbolt control center reports no attached devices and lists the controller driver version as N/A. I have all the latest updates drivers and updates, using the HP's support assistant and I have manually redownloaded all the related drivers, still no dice. Any idea how to fix my problem?

P.S.: the dock itself works perfectly fine on a linux laptop as well as macbook m2, so there is very little chance that the dock is the problematic part.

Hi @tacsist,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

I understand that you are unable to use the Thunderbolt dock on your Omen. This could be a compatibility issue.

Not all the docks work with HP units. However, I would request you to contact our HP Support Engineers who should be able to sort this out.

For that to happen, we will give you additional instructions/information via Private Message.

Hi, thank you for reaching out! I will contact the engineers right away, but I seem to not be able to locate your private message. Besides the forum reply, I have not gotten any notifications.
Additionally, I am quite puzzled by the statement that the units might not be compatable, because to have a thunderbolt port be advertised as so on a laptop, it has to go though a certification which implies that the port has the compatable feature set e.g. all docks must work with all laptops (therefore the reason that my even non HP products, both a thinkpad and a macbook work fine).

After further testing, Windows 10 has no problem setting up drivers and using the thunderbolt to the full potential, although the intel's thunderbolt control center still reports no controller found. It is also a shame that HP has decided to lock their BIOS which makes troubleshooting and/or adjusting settings very difficult.
This seems to boil down to buggy drivers (or win11 problems) so if you have a simillar problem, I do not see a fix until HP decides to update their stuff.
But I would definetelly like to be proven wrong 🙂
