OMEN by HP Laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Alright, so I know this seems to be a common problem but none of the solutions I find seem to fix my issue. Here's what's going on:

My laptop battery does not like to charge. However, it does NOT say "plugged in, not charging" like I read in other posts. It simply says "plugged in" and there is no other battery status past that. When I run the HPBC, it passes the test but the battery status comes back as "Unknown". The weirdest part though... Sometimes it does charge. I would say about 55% of the time, I let the laptop die and power it back on, it will start to charge. The other 44% of the time is luck, and not to mention I wouldn't be here asking about this issue if I could get it to work this time. Furthermore, if by the off chance I can get it to charge, once I unplug the AC adapter, I can not get it to charge again. The most I can do is retain the amount of charge in the battery. For example, say I charge it to 100%, unplug it and use 30% battery leaving me with 70%, when I plug the laptop back in it will stay at 70% until I unplug it, to which it only dies more. Only when it is completely dead will it (sometimes) actually start recharging.

Here is what I have tried so far to fix it:

HPBC

F2 reset

Uninstalled battery drivers (Microsoft ACPI & Microsoft AC Adapter) and restarted laptop

Checked for updates on BIOS, they are up to date.

Ran an HP PC Hardware Diagnostic (basically the same thing as F2 but I installed the app lol) Battery and AC adapter tests both passed

I tried stupid stuff like switching outlets in the wall and blowing into my AC adapter and charging port

I have gone through the HP Assistant and completed all the steps suggested, still doesn't work

I have probably tried more that I am forgetting but literally NOTHING seems to be working. I know the battery is ok, it passes the test and I can usually get it to charge eventually, and it holds a decent charge when unplugged. I know it's not the AC adapter because when it's plugged in it still holds power, and when the laptop dies it will only start up when the power cord is connected (duh.) Just genuinely not sure what else to do, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Some other information that might be helpful:

Windows 10 Home

Version 1903

OS Build 18362.1139

Thank you!

@ConnorLee

I reviewed your post and I understand that the battery is not getting charged correctly.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I see that you have already followed all the relevant troubleshooting steps and based on your description it looks like an issue with the battery connector or the DC port.

I recommend you contact support and check the available service options for your computer.
