HP Omen 15-dh0134tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Omen 15-dh0134tx, which I bought about a week ago, will have its CPU jump up around 30 degrees celsius when it is charging, making it impossible to do anything more intensive than web browsing while charging.  For example, I tried playing Dark Souls 3 and while charging was having CPU temperatures ranging from 65-95 degrees celsius, however, while I was not charging, it stayed around 40-50 which is much more manageable and less concerning.  This makes me think it is some hardware issue rather than it being a limit on my specs, or some setting or process that only activates when charging.  The change is also more or less immediate upon plugging in/unplugging the charger.  The charger is the one that was supplied with the laptop.

For completeness sake, my specs are:

Processor: Intel Core i7-9750H @ 2.60 GHz

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660Ti

RAM: 16GB

My preferred fix will be being able to use the laptop while charging without the CPU temperature being significantly raised.  If there is any way to have my laptop run the same charging as not charging that would be brilliant.

I had an Omen notebook as an HP product loan before and I never experienced anything like that while charging and playing games.

I would indeed suspect that there is a hardware or firmware issue.

Have you used the HP Support Assistant to see if there is a BIOS update?

I notice that there is a new Intel Management Engine Interface driver available. I suggest installing it.

Check out the operating system enhancements and QFE (hotfixes) that is available
