HP Omen J9K24UA#ABA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Is there anyway to upgrade the storage in my HP Omen J9K24UA#ABA ... I haven't been able to find anything online pertaining to my specific laptop, only to the larger size Omen's.  Right now it has a 256GB SSD which is nowhere near large enough.  Is there an additional spot to add a hard drive on this computer? If not, how hard would it be for me to replace the 256 GB SSD with a larger SSD?  If there is a manual someone can refer me to I would appreciate it but I haven't been able to find anything yet.

I feel your pain. I owned a laptop in that model series a few years back and I actually had one with a 128 gig SSD. I am not shy about opening my laptops for upgrade and was willing and able to do it but the construction of these models is very odd.

The bottom plate to be removed for access to the inside is surrounded by a rubber gasket which also serves as rubber feet. It goes all the way around the access plate on the bottom. I was never able to locate a replacement rubber gasket and did learn from user forums ad the manual that you run a high risk of breaking or otherwise damaging the gasket if you remove the access plate so I never did.

See p. 26 here:

Service Manual

HP does not list a replacement part for the rubber strip but the Manual says somewhere the strip will be provided if you buy a replacement part from HP requiring its removal. Well, HP charges an arm and a leg for M.2 SSDs or at least they did back when I owned this model of Omen. By the way, I loved the performance and looks and fit and finish of the laptop in general as I am sure you do, too. It's one of the cooler things HP has made in recent years.

Its been several years now and HP may have just the rubber strips in stock so it might be worth contacting the Parts Store.

If you do manage to open it you can install a SATA or PCIe/NVME M.2 SSD 2280 form factor and I would recommend a Samsung 970 Evo Plus. There is no limit on capacity...a 1 or 2 TB would work fine. The M.2 SSD is the only kind of storage it can take. RAM is soldered to the motherboard and not upgradeable. HP really did not want you to  open these things for some reason.

Thanks for the help.  I'll probably take it apart this weekend and see if I can get that gasket back on.

Will report back and let you know how it goes!

You will break it trying to remove it. I have seen some suggestion you can just reuse the pieces, however. Good luck.
