I am trying to upgrade my RAM to either 16 or 32 depending on the answer.
HP OMEN 15DC-0096NR
8GB DDR4 SODIMM 2666mhz
Watching it run as I am just doing websearching it is using about half of what is available. I have looked at Ballistix and Vengence RAM and not sure if they will fit and work well with the system. From what I have read it sounds like dual rank RAM would be better for running multiple processes. I am using this laptop for entry level engeneering and gaming. the two types of RAM I am looking at are listed below.
Ballistix Sport LT 16GB Single DDR4 2666 MT/s (PC4-21300) CL16 DR x8 SODIMM 260-Pin - BLS16G4S26BFSD (Gray) CORSAIR VENGEANCE SODIMM 16GB (1x16GB) DDR4 2666 C18 Laptop Memory

I did put a link in there to amazon.com for a 2 x 16 gig kit of DDR4-2666 branded "Timetec".
If you just want to upgrade to 16 gigs which is very likely more than enough, then something like this:

Forget about "performance" or "gaming" memory. You cannot use any extra speed or lower latency; the motherboard will clock the RAM the same as the OEM Hynix, Samsung whatever was sold with the system. I just went through a long thread with a User here who fought me on this point and finally had to concede the system worked with OEM memory and did not with "fast" "gaming" memory.
Max memory is 32 gigs (2 x 16) of DDR4-2666 and for this model you have full permission to open the back cover for upgrade without jeopardizing the warranty.
Specified 16 gig SO-DIMM is
SODIMM 16 GB 2666 MHz 1.2 v DDR4 937438-850
This Timetec brand is made by Hynix and seems to have become the house brand on amazon.com and is equivalent to the HP OEM memory; in other words would work fine for you and is reasonable in price:
See pages 35-42 of the Service Manual for "how to" on memory.

That sounds a lot better than what i was expecting. I would much rather have to spend less than to spend more for a brand name that does the same thing. I wasn't sure if the lower clock rate or dual channel thing would play a difference. I appreciate thae help. You wouldn't by chance have a link for the RAM or is just a simple generic 2x8 or 2x16 DDR4 SODIMM 2666mhz will work from amazon. Thank you soo much!

I ended up buying “gaming” ram before I found your post and I installed 32 GB. Would the ram in the link you sent be faster or would they end up being the same speed? Thanks for the help in advance!
I ordered this
