Has any one upgraded the hard drive (HDD) to their omen? I opened mine and check and I see it has some room for a possibly larger hard drive. I was wondering if any one has tried to install a desktop Hard drive or one that is larger that 9.5mm? Or is it only limited to laptop/notebook hard drives? I want to upgrade to ideally a <4TB HDD.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see from your post you need information and assistance related to upgrading the hard drive on your HP notebook. No worries, I'll be glad to help you.
I did go through the Product specifications of your notebook and found that the hard drive installed on your PC is -
- 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA
Please go through the Maintenance and Service guide of your notebook and found few things which should help you in narrow down the issue.
Here you the list of configurations which are compatible and tested on your PC.
Chapter 3. Illustrated parts catalog - Item 14. Hard drive - It's on page number 21.
Chapter 10. Specifications - Hard drive Specifications - It's on page number 72.
If you wish to try other parts you can try it at your own discretion, HP Doesn't recommend any upgrade/downgrade of any hardware parts or software that is bundled with the product. It may affect the manufacturer's warranty and performance.
Alternatively, You could replace the part on your own, use the HP Parts surfer to identify the part: Click here & order it via the HP Parts store (Click here).
Let me know if this helps!
Have a great day ahead! 🙂
