HP OMEN Notebook - 15-5113dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

I have bought this laptop just over 1 year ago so my warrant literally just expired :

HP OMEN Notebook - 15-5113dx (ENERGY STAR)

Model #: J9K24UA

Today my laptop all of a sudden cannot identify the batery and only works plugged. It says 'no batery present'.

The batery on this model is not easy to access so I can't try to 'remove it and insert it back in again'.

What should I do?

Thanks

@Andre90

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

The Riddle_Decipher is at your service.

As I Understand the HP Omen isn't detecting the battery anymore,

No worries as I'd love to help, however, I need a few more details to provide an accurate solution:

Have you attempted to reseat the battery using the HP Service and manual guide as it explains the steps to reseat them?Click here: if you haven't & look under Page. 27.

Did you check with an alternate power adapter and/or wall outlet (directly without surge protectors) to check if that charges the battery?

While you respond to my query, try the steps below:

Troubleshoot the notebook power supply

Before troubleshooting the notebook battery, make sure the power supply is functioning properly. Use the following steps to check the AC adapter and power source.

  1. Verify that you are using the AC power adapter that came with the computer.

The computer was shipped with the correct power adapter; however, if you have multiple adapters, make sure that you are using the correct one for your computer.

Older adapters were rated at 60 watts, but newer notebooks require adapters with 90 or 130 watts.

If you need to purchase a replacement AC power supply/adapter, make sure you use the model number of the computer and check for the correct part number for the adapter at the HP Parts Store. You will also need the model number if you call HP Customer Support. See How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?.

  2. Plug the AC adapter into a functioning wall outlet, not a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source, then make sure the notebook is receiving power from the power source by checking the following:

    • Unplug the AC power cable from the notebook, then remove the notebook battery. Plug the AC power cable back into the notebook and turn it on. If the notebook powers on, the problem is with the battery. Go to Troubleshooting the notebook battery.

If the notebook does not power on, continue reading this list of things to check.

    • Verify that all power cord connections are secure. Check the AC adapter brick and make sure that any removable cords are secure.

If the AC adapter connection to the computer is loose, the connector might be damaged and require repair. Contact HP for further assistance.

Hi, thanks for the response. But it didn't work.

1) Yes, I am using the AC cord hat came with my laptop.

2) As i said, the problem is with the battery. The computer does torn on without the battery if it is plugged in.

In addition i followed the steps listed here https://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c04506712 to remove the battery.

I removed the battery, pressed and hold the power button for 1 minute, inserted the battery back in but it still didn't work.

I have also tried uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery under Device Managers but it also didn't work.

Any other thing I should try or is the battery completely dead at this point? My warranty literally  expired just 1 month ago.

Still no one was able to fix this. Customer support said might be the whole mother board that went dead and would cost over 700 bucks to fix. Plus having the hassle to ship it and wait 9 bus days to get it back... HORRIBLE service.

This was the LAST HP product I buy. Can't believe this went bad in less than two years (surprisingly right after the warranty expires).

Should stick with apple or other brand that have better customer support.

Had the same issue. FWIW, replacing the battery fixed it for me (found a refurb on ebay.. $50). I've never had a battery die in less than 2 years, this one was just over a year old. Zero responsibility claimed from HP, they just told me it's out of warranty so tough luck basically.

It is pretty insane, never had a laptop with the battery dying in less than 2 years either, and to be honest I was not even using it that much!
Will try to check for a battery myself also then, thanks for the hint.
As for HP laptos, never again.
