USB for eGPU (Razer Core X, with NVIDIA RTX 4060Ti) keeps disconnecting, especially when playing games (between 1 minute to 3 hours, quite random so may be overheat, and different per game). After disconnected, I have to restart the computer and turn on the eGPU again to connect. However, after disconnecting, when the eGPU is still connected, it still charges the computer.

With an external SSD, the notification keeps showing it keeps connect/disconnecting.

It is just annoying that I have to restart the computer to restore the eGPU function.

Help is appreciated.

Hi @rhythmyst7,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can see how disruptive this issue is, especially with your HP OmniBook Ultra Laptop 14-fd0xxx and the Razer Core X eGPU with RTX 4060Ti disconnecting randomly during gaming. Since it also affects your external SSD, this points to a broader USB subsystem instability, possibly related to power delivery, thermal throttling, or driver conflicts.

Targeted Fixes for USB/eGPU Disconnects

1. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

HP laptops often receive USB stability fixes via BIOS updates.

2. Disable USB Selective Suspend

Windows may be powering down USB ports to save energy.

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Advanced settings.
  • Expand USB settings > USB selective suspend setting → set to Disabled.

3. Use a High-Quality USB-C Cable and Port

  • Ensure you're using the Thunderbolt-certified cable that came with the Razer Core X.
  • Plug into the primary Thunderbolt/USB-C port (usually closest to the CPU).

Avoid hubs or adapters.

4. Check for Thermal Throttling

Since disconnects vary by game and time, overheating may be triggering USB controller shutdown.

  • Monitor temps using HWMonitor or CoreTemp.
  • Ensure proper airflow and consider undervolting or limiting GPU power via NVIDIA Control Panel.

5. Update NVIDIA and Razer Drivers

  • Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to cleanly reinstall NVIDIA drivers.
  • Install the latest Razer Core X firmware and Razer Synapse software.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi,

I have checked everything and it still is problematic.

Some games I played definitely is more demanding, but it can run longer than some games that are lighter, in terms of when the eGPU suddenly disconnects, so I conclude this is not due to temperature. Especially that SSD connection is not that warm as well and yet keeps disconnecting.

I updated all the drivers stuff from the website you shared, and there is no changes. Not sure about the BIOS for USB.

It seems all the drivers are up to date as well for NVIDIA.

I am concerned about the different USB C type. The eGPU uses type 3 and this computer type 4.

Please let me know if there is other particular fixes I can use, thank you.
