Hi @RonD66,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP Pavilion DV7 6000 series laptop and the compatibility of an S700 SSD. It's important to note that the HP Pavilion DV7 6000 series laptops were released several years ago, and their compatibility with newer hardware, such as SSDs, may vary.
However, SSDs are generally compatible with most laptop models, including older ones like the DV7 6000 series. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.
- Verify physical compatibility: Ensure that the S700 SSD you're trying to install uses the same form factor as the existing hard drive in your laptop. Most laptops, including the DV7 series, typically use 2.5-inch SATA drives. The S700 SSD should also use the SATA interface.
- Check BIOS settings: Enter your laptop's BIOS setup by pressing the appropriate key during the boot process (common keys include F2, F10, or Del). Once in the BIOS, check if the SSD is detected. If not, look for an option related to SATA or storage settings and make sure it's set to AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) mode, which is the standard mode for SSDs.
- Update BIOS and drivers: Visit HP's official website and check if there are any BIOS updates available for your specific laptop model. Updating the BIOS can sometimes improve hardware compatibility. Additionally, ensure that you have the latest drivers installed for your laptop's storage controller.
- Verify SSD functionality: If possible, try connecting the S700 SSD to another computer or laptop to ensure that it's functioning properly. This will help determine if the issue lies with the SSD itself or with the laptop's compatibility.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
