Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

I would like to replace the battery for my laptop with a new one. The reason I’m looking to replace the battery is sporadic and extended periods where the laptop will not charge or stop charging with the AC adapter plugged in. The battery is indicated as requiring calibration but after several attempts, I have been unable to successfully calibrate the battery. My battery health is just above 80% and I’d rather not replace the battery so soon but I don’t see another choice.

From the Maintenance & Service guide, I can see two compatible batteries for my laptop. One is the 42Wh that I currently have installed, and one is a 51Wh. I would prefer to get the 51Wh one, but I’m not sure if I can. I can see that laptop models that come with a 51 Wh as standard have a different bottom cover.

My question is, would I be able to install a 51 Wh battery in my laptop, and would I be able to, and necessarily have to, also replace the bottom cover?

Laptop Model: HP PB455G9 R5-5625U 15 16GB/512 PC (7J1C5AA)

Current battery (42Wh): M75599-005

Part No. of 51Wh battery: M73472-005

Part No. of current bottom cover: M21720-001

Part No. of 51Wh battery laptop model bottom cover: N00121-001

Thank you,

@FSUK51,

Apparently, you can install a 51W battery.

Click the link below and scroll down to '10 Battery,' which reports a performance of a 51W battery.

HP ProBook 455 G9 review | LaptopMedia.com

A 51W battery has slightly different dimensions (it's a little thicker), and as you mentioned, a different bottom cover is required.

See pages 51-52 of the service manual which indicate that a 51W battery also requires a different cooling fan.

Maintenance and Service Guide

So, if it's ok for you to replace a bottom cover and cooling fan, you can install a 51W battery.
