Greetings,

I am using the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows tool and have run into some issues. Last week, I ran the Fast Tests included in the app, but it stopped at test #3 or #4 and displayed "Disk1 FAILED" without any explanation or details. I also tried the Windows Disk version of the same tests, and all components for Disk1 passed without issue.

Today, I re-downloaded the tool and ran the Fast Tests again, but it stopped at "Disk1 Failed" once more. This time, it claimed it had to close for an unknown reason and then crashed. Has anyone else experienced this issue with the HP PC Hardware diagnostics Windows tool? I've been unable to find answers on HP's website and would prefer not to wait two or more weeks for assistance.

Thank you,
Barry

Hi @POPSBARRY,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that you are facing issues with HP PC hardware diagnostics. It’s often a software glitch in the Windows tool rather than a true hardware fault, especially if UEFI or Windows Disk tests show the drive as healthy.

Let's try a few steps to resolve the issue.

Run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI Fast Test (about 4 minutes)

When Windows doesn't start, begin the hardware diagnostics by running the Fast Test. The Fast Test is separated into a 1st pass and 2nd pass, with each pass running multiple tests.

Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

Turn on the computer and immediately press esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu is displayed, press the f2 key.

On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.

If the diagnostics are not available when using the F2 menu, run the diagnostics from a USB drive. To download the latest version of the diagnostics, go to the HP Hardware Diagnostics website. For instructions, see Test hardware with HP PC Hardware Diagnostics from an external USB flash drive.

Click Fast Test, and then click Run once.

While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component is displayed on the screen.

If a component fails a test, scan the QR code or write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you contact HP Customer Support. The information is also available in Test Logs on the main menu.

If no test fails, click Continue, and then click Run once to run the 2nd Pass of the System Fast Test.

If a component fails a test, scan the QR code or write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you contact HP Customer Support. The information is also available in Test Logs on the main menu.

If no system component fails, run the extensive test.

Update the Diagnostics Tool

Download the latest HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows from HP’s official site: HP Diagnostics Support Page

Reinstall it to ensure you’re not running an outdated or corrupted build.

Let me know how it goes.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Best regards,
