Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

Hello,

My HP Prime Calculator works normally while it is connected to the charging cable. The calculator turns on, all functions work correctly, and the battery indicator shows a 100% charge.

However, as soon as I disconnect the charging cable, the calculator shuts down immediately. There is no low-battery warning, and it does not remain on even for a few seconds. It appears that the calculator is operating only from the external power supplied by the cable and is not receiving any power from the battery, despite the battery status showing 100%.

When I reconnect the cable, the calculator turns on and works normally again.

The original battery specifications are:

  • Battery model: 484461AR
  • Compatible product reference: HSTNJ-BC01
  • Voltage: 3.7 V
  • Capacity: 1500 mAh / 5.55 Wh
  • Battery serial number: 1704008216

Could this indicate that the battery has failed, is no longer holding a charge, or is not being properly detected by the calculator?

I would also like to know whether there are any recommended troubleshooting steps, such as resetting the calculator, recalibrating the battery indicator, checking the battery connection, or replacing the battery.

If the battery needs to be replaced, where can I purchase a new original or fully compatible replacement battery for the HP Prime? Is there an official HP parts store, authorized reseller, or specific replacement part number that I should look for?

Hi @CalculatorPrime,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Based on the symptoms you described, the calculator appears to be operating normally when external power is supplied, but it immediately powers off when the USB cable is disconnected. Although the battery indicator reports 100% charge, this behavior can occur if:

  • The battery is no longer able to supply power despite reporting a charge level.

  • The battery connection is loose or not making proper contact.

  • The battery management circuitry is not correctly communicating with the calculator.

  • There is an internal hardware issue affecting battery detection or charging.

Recommended Troubleshooting:

Perform a Hardware Reset:

  • Connect the calculator to external power.

  • Use a paperclip to press the reset pinhole on the back of the calculator for 2–3 seconds.

  • Allow the calculator to restart and test operation on battery power.

Check the Battery Connection:

  • Power off the calculator and disconnect the charging cable.

  • Open the battery compartment and verify that the battery connector is seated properly and that the contacts are clean and undamaged.

  • Reinstall the battery and test again.

Discharge Residual Power:

  • Remove the battery.

  • Press and hold the ON key for approximately 60 seconds.

  • Reinstall the battery, connect the charger, allow the unit to charge, and then test operation without the cable.

Diagnostic Reset (Optional):

  • While connected to power, press and hold F, C, and O simultaneously.

  • Press and release the reset button.

  • If the diagnostic menu appears, follow the available reset or storage maintenance options, then restart the calculator.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
