I want to upgrade from 1 tb HDD to 512 GB SSD on the laptop HP Pavilion - 14-bf125tx.
Kindly advise if its possible and will it void warranty on the laptop. Can we easily remove the 1 tb HDD and put the 512 GB SSD or is the 1 TB HDD soldered to the motherboard. Kindly suggest me the steps

Hi @brittobharathy,
Thanks for stopping by the HP community. A very good day to you. 🙂 I reviewed the post regarding assistance with SSD upgrades for the notebook. I will be delighted to assist you here. 🙂
Superb description and stupendous diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require information regarding this:
For a start please try these steps:
- Did you check the product specs of your computer?
- Did you check the service manual of the computer?
Please check the product specs link: http://hp.care/2yoM2gA
- It came preinstalled with 1 TB 5400 rpm SATA
- The service manual link: http://hp.care/2yoM2NC clearly states that the computer supports solid state drives.
- These are the options available. There are 2 SSD drives tested by HP for this computer.
- Please check pages 20, 43 for a list of supported memory modules with part numbers.
- Also, it gives you steps on how to remove and install it.
- These are the 2 types of SSDs supported and tested by HP on the computer.
- 256-GB, M2.2280, SATA-3 865902-005 (with part numbers included)
- 128-GB, M2.2280, SATA-3 827560-015 (with part numbers included)
Please note that HP does not recommend upgrading either the operating system or the computer’s hardware as the components that were initially installed with the unit are certified by HP for optimal performance. However, as you are very technically inclined, I would still request you to consult a local technician like Best Buy or Staples before proceeding to upgrade the unit.
This is to ensure that there are no compatibility issues and everything is a smooth sail.
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care now and have a terrific week ahead. 🙂

I would appreciate further clarrification.
I would like to save energy and battery life and was thinking the SSD could help.
I understand that the HP 14 Notebook can take a SSD 7mm in place of the Hard drive, and also a M2 SSD on it's own space and slot...
If I mount a new M2 SSD along the original hard drive, would it be possible to install the operating system on it (I use Linux Ubuntu) and hope for less energy conscumption ?
Or would it be just easier to install a 2.5-in SSD in place of the hard drive ?
Thank you for any suggestion
