Hi

As per title, planning to buy a HP Pavilion 14-bk069sa and just curios to know if it might support to add a SSD , if it has a M.2 Slot or not this particular model. The processor inside is a Intel Pentium 4415U . The manual is general, not model specific, and I found some contradicting information on the web, hence why I am asking here on this great forum to be sure. Its not a huge dealbreaker if it doesnt have one, but would be great if it does to make it faster in operation 🙂

Thanks in advance for your kind replies.

Pentium and Celeron models do not usually have M.2 slots. The Service Manual:

Manual

does not say that in this case. I am about 99% sure however it will not have the slot.

Start on p. 29 to remove the rear cover and inside you see this:

red arrow = hdd green arrow = M.2red arrow = hdd green arrow = M.2

You can always replace the HDD with a 2.5 inch SATA SSD like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-500GB-Internal-MZ-76E500B-AM/dp/B0781Z7Y3S/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=860+Ev...

If the slot is present you can add a SATA M.2 SSD like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-860-SATA-Internal-MZ-N6E1T0BW/dp/B07822Z77M/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=860+E...

The 2.5 inch and M.2 type of SATA SSD will run at about the same speed so no performance advantage to either but obviously you can save the hard drive for storage if the M.2 slot is present and get by with a smaller capacity disk. A 256 is plenty just for OS use. If you have to use a 2.5 inch as your only storage I would get at least a 500 gig.

Hi,

Yes, I believe it has an M2 slot with support for M2 SATA3 SSD such as the Samsung 860 Evo or similar.

Other examples

You could take a quick look to make sure slot is on motherboard, only need to remove some screws to be certain.

On page 29 of service manual you can see how to remove bottom cover to take a look and install drive (page 37)

You will need to install the OS on the SSD for performance gain. You could also install an extra 4GB RAM while you have it open.

Hope it helps,

David

Thanks a lot!

I found one photo online, of a motherboard that supposed to be from same model, I see it seems to have a slot M.2 in the upper left corner?

That is definitely an M.2 slot. I have never seen a model with a Celeron or Pentium processor and an M.2 slot but then again, the Manual will usually say those models have no M.2 slot and in this case it does not say that so I hope it does have the slot. Of course open the laptop and verify before buying an SSD. Good luck.

@Huffer

I had noticed that it came with a Pentium Processor. I had come across a thread this morning with a model with the same processor and a PCIe NVMe SSD. The Pavilion x360 - 14-cd0004no

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-14-cd0000-x360-convertible-pc/20283983/model/231159...

in this thread

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Pavilion-x360-RAM-Upgrade/m...

I also took a look at the CPU specs. It even supports up to 32GB RAM.

That is why I am pretty sure the slot is there. I just advised looking to avoid any doubt. (a few screws)

regards,

David

Let us know how it works out.

Yes I actually had an i3 version of that same model series for a while. Good to see HP making the budget machines more upgradable. That Pentium processor is only a very small tick slower than an i3 so its a fairly competent machine.
