I would like to upgrade my laptop both the ram and also SSD. I think I know how to do the ram part but am confused how to do the ssd part.
Presently I have a SATA 1TB with win10 inside etc.
If I buy and install new M.2 PCIE SSD 240GB ( ADATA XPG SX8200 Gen3x4 M.2 2280), can some technical person advice me whether this is ok and how do I make win10 to boot from this SSD instead of from SATA.
A link or guideline or the software or step by step how to do this would be good.
Many thanks in advance

Hi,
I'll try to help you with your question.
Your PC supports max 32GB of DDR4 2400Mhz RAM(2x16GB) even if service manual mentions 16GB. There are two slots and at the moment you have one 4GB stick and one empty slot. You can purchase RAM from your preferred brand such as Crucial, Samsung... On page 54 of the service manual you can see the steps to upgrade RAM in the notebook:
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06165629
The service manual mentions support for M2 PCIe NVMe SSDs such as the one you linked or one of the best price/performance SSD the Samsung 970 Evo. On page 52 of the service manual, you can see the steps to install the M2 drive.
Once you have installed the drive you can install the OS on the SSD.
You can either migrate an image using software which is bundled with SSD or perform a new install using HP recovery disks or downloading Windows 10 from Microsoft and performing a clean install. I, personally use the last option. Let me know in what way you want to install the OS on the SSD and I can provide further help.

David

David,
Thanks for the great advice. There are things not in the service manual which you help clear the air.
One more question on the DDR4 RAM. I have contacted a seller and he told me I could also use 2666MHz instead of 2400MHz? Is this true?
