You are not understanding the terms. You are not understanding my explanation. To make it very very simple. No NVME. Again, no NVME.
The problem is that M.2 is a kind of PCIe slot. Some M.2 slots take only SATA M.2 disks and some can take SATA or NVME. They are all PCIe slots. Your slot is only able to work with a SATA type M.2 disk so the Samsung 860 M.2 will work and the 970 will not.
So your questions 1 and 2 make no sense. M.2 or NVME is not a question. All NVMEs are M.2 but not all M.2 are NVME. Same with PCIe. All M.2 slots are PCIe. You have an M.2 type PCIe port it just can't recognize an NVME disk.
Last word on this. Good luck to you.

You have there one of the more difficult models on which to perform any kind of upgrade.
There is an M.2 slot on the back side of the motherboard. See p. 78. Even the hard drive is not very easy to get at but at least does not require motherboard removal. See p. 69
The M.2 slot can only work with SATA-3 type disks so you could use the M.2 version of the Samsung 860 Evo series and you can install either of the 2.5 inch SATA SSDs you linked in your question.
Post back with any other questions and please accept as solution if its the info you needed.

The slot is a PCIe slot but there are SATA only PCIe slots for storage and NVME enabled slots. Your laptop is a bit too old for NVME so again the only type of M.2 you could install would be a SATA-3 type M.2 disk:
