HP Pavilion 15-cc598na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey all,

I'm looking to upgrade the RAM on my HP Pavilion 15-cc598na. It currently has a 4GB stick of DDR4, and I'd like to buy another 4gb DDR4 stick, however I don't know if I need a x8 or x16 chipset - I read that if one stick is x8 and the other is x16 they don't work well together (or perhaps are incompatible). The official HP part number for the 4GB ram already installed is '862397-855', but I can't find any information online regarding the chipset.

If someone could give me some info or advice on this it would be much appreciated 🙂

Hi Huffer, thanks for your reply and for letting me know I can still run dual channel with two different densities.

I searched more on the internet and saw that the HP RAM with code 862397-855 actually belongs to a few different types of ram. Although most of the pictures show it is Samsung, after opening my laptop and looking at my own RAM I found the density is x16 and mine is manufactured by Micron. I just ordered another Micron 4gb DDR4 as I heard that the optimal dual cahnnel RAM setup is with two ram sticks that are the same

Heres a picture of the module from an amazon ad for it:

This is high density x8 memory. With DDR4 you can usually mix low and high density and still get dual channel operation. I have that arrangement in the laptop I am using to send this. No sense in pushing your luck however. Open it first and buy a module just like what you already have. See p. 41 of the manual here:

Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if its the info you needed.
