Hi guys,
I am looking to buy a HP Pavilion 15-au074sa, its currently on sale in PC world UK, it states it comes with 8gb worth of RAM
PC WORLD LINK - http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-pavilion-15-au074sa-15-6-laptop-silver-10...
I would like to max out the RAM but the online help stated it only goes to 8gb, on the HP web site for the above laptop it states its fitted with 1x8gb of ram and no mention of the total capitacy of avaibale slots,
HP WEBSITE - http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-15-Notebook-PC-
Does anyone have/upgraded this model or know if it can have eztra RAM added and if so how much.
Tanks

It most definitely has 2 memory slots and can take up to 16 gigs of DDR4:
Two SODIMM slots - customer non-accessible/non-upgradeable DDR4-2133 Dual Channel Support (DDR4-2400 bridge to DDR4–2133) Supports up to 16GB max system memory
Above is a quote from the Service Manual.
Start on p. 29 and note the warnings about opening the laptop being authorized only for service technicians and unfortunately I have to say you will proceed at the risk of the warranty. Still, many people choose to do it and this is one of the services this Forum, run by non-HP people, can provide, which HP itself cannot, but don't say you were not warned. It is actually about medium difficult. Motherboard removal is not required but pay careful attention to screw management and you will be OK. There is also the issue of finding compatible memory. DDR4 is pretty new to the market.
See p. 35 and this is the memory module you need by HP Part number:
8 GB 2133 MHz 1.2v DDR4 shared 820570-005
This will work:
I have a Zbook 15 G3 that uses DDR4 and I used Patriot DDR4 in mine (from Frys) and it worked fine. Running stable and in dual channel mode.
