Common problems for Battery

My HP pavilion 15 laptop has a flashing white light by the battery port. The light flashes five times pauses then flashes five times again and that cycle repeats. When the adapter is plugged in the battery is charging normally but the light continues to flash. When I switch off the laptop and shut it down completely the light is still flashing, even when I remove AC power adapter.

Nothing appears to stop the light from flashing even though I have followed advice in online searches and for similar issues posted in this community. It looks like the battery is being drained very minimally because of the flashing light when the laptop is shut down.

The laptop does not have a removeable battery and I have completed all HP diagnostic tests and applicable software updates.

Hi @JAG199,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The flashing light on your HP Pavilion 15 could indicate a battery or power-related issue, especially if it continues to blink when the laptop is shut down and not connected to AC power. Since you've already completed diagnostics and updates without resolving the issue, here are a few additional steps you can try.

Perform a Power Reset

A power reset can help to discharge residual electricity from your laptop’s components, which may stop the light from flashing.

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Unplug the AC adapter and any external devices.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain any residual charge.
  • Plug the adapter back in (without powering the laptop on) and check if the light is still flashing.

BIOS Reset

Sometimes a BIOS reset can resolve power-related issues.

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Press the F10 key repeatedly during startup to enter the BIOS.
  • Inside the BIOS, reset the settings to default (usually by pressing F9 or selecting the "Load Setup Defaults" option).
  • Save and exit the BIOS.

Battery and Power Management Troubleshooting

  • Check the battery health using the HP Diagnostics tool in the BIOS or HP Support Assistant.
  • Consider uninstalling the ACPI-Control Method Battery driver:
    1. Right-click on the Start button and open Device Manager.
    2. Expand Batteries.
    3. Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall.
    4. Shut down your laptop, disconnect the power, and restart.

Battery Firmware Update (if applicable)

Some HP Pavilion models have firmware updates that address battery issues. You can check for any battery-related firmware on the HP Support website for your specific laptop model.

Check for Faulty Hardware

Since the battery is not removable, it may be difficult to test it outside of the laptop. If the above steps don't resolve the issue, the flashing light could indicate a hardware fault in the battery or the power circuitry. Given that the battery is still charging normally, it might not be an immediate concern, but the light could be a warning of a future battery issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

After searching high and low for help, the only thing that worked was removing the power cable, leaving the laptop on and allowing the battery power to completely drain down. The blinking has completely stopped. I hope this helps someone else.
