Hi!

I would like to buy 32GB of RAM (or the maximum supported) for a HP Pavilion 15-ec0005nq laptop. The full title of the laptop is "HP Gaming 15.6'' Pavilion 15-ec0005nq, FHD IPS, Processor AMD Ryzen™ 5 3550H (4M Cache, up to 3.70 GHz), 8GB DDR4, 256GB SSD, GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB". This is the model that I have from the website I bought it from: https://www.pcgarage.ro/notebook-lap...-shadow-black/

I've tried to upgrade with "Corsair Vengeance, 32GB, DDR4, 2400MHz, CL16, 1.2v, Dual Channel Kit", but after mounting them, the screen remains black and I cannot access BIOS. Obviously my logic was flawed so I am asking for help this time. I've also updated the BIOS, tried each memory stick separately, but I did not succeed.

The laptop currently has two sticks of  "MTA4ATF51264HZ-3G2J1", "4GB 1RX16 PC4-3200AA-SC0-11".

I am uploading some photos which might be useful:

Thanks in advance!

Hi, @florincalota

You should use the same type of standard performance memory that HP installed in your notebook.

The CL 16 specification of the Corsair memory you bought is too fast and your notebook's BIOS has no provisions to adjust for the CL speed.

I recommend that if you can buy this memory in Romania, it should work fine.

Crucial 16GB DDR4-2666 SODIMM | CT16G4SFRA266 | Crucial.com

The 2666 MHz memory will automatically bridge to 2400 MHz as indicated in the service manual.

Its specs

It has  8 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (2 x 4 G and suports 32GB (2 x 16GB) max. You can use the following compatible RAM

Thanks for the quick replies and special thanks to @Paul_Tikkanen for explaining why the RAM sticks I bought did not work.

I found and ordered the exact kit recommended. "Crucial 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2400 SODIMM CT2K16G4SFD824A"

Cheers!

You're very welcome.

Yes, if you notice the CL speed for the standard DDR4-2400 memory, it is a tiny bit slower (CL17), but that is what your notebook was designed to run with, and that should make all the difference.

Happy New Year!
