HP Pavilion 15 - eh1034no
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I plan to buy this HP Pavilion 15 - eh1034no that comes with standard 8GB RAM but the HP page that shows the product doesn't have any information on max RAM. I've asked support but they don't have access to more information either but they "guess" that it is possible. I never buy on guessing. What worries me is that the spec says the following

MEMORY
Memory, default   ............8 GB DDR4-3200 MHz RAM (2 x 4 GB)

Memory layout (locations and size) .............. 2 x 4 GB

I "guess" that the layout is saying that no upgrade is possible, contrary to the HP support guess.

You're very welcome.

The 'not customer accessible or upgradeable '  statement means that HP wants any upgrades to be performed by an authorized HP service center.

You can find the memory removal and replacement procedures in chapter 5 of the manual.

If you feel that after reading the manual, you can do the memory upgrade yourself without breaking anything in the process (thus voiding the warranty), feel free to do so.

Here it says the maximum is 32gb

Hi:

Unfortunately, all of the service manuals for all HP PC's are missing from the support pages.

The matter has been reported to HP.

In order to upgrade the memory, you would need to replace both DDR4-3200 memory chips with ones having more capacity (2 x 8 GB or 2 x 16 GB).

I would not run out an buy memory until the manuals are back online.

The product specs do not indicate the memory is 'onboard,' so 99% of the time, that means the memory is removable and upgradable.

@Nostro: can't see what you are referring to.

@Paul_Tikkanen: it is certainly removable and upgradable. The question is what's the limit. 2x8? 2x16? or 2x32 ...

I've had in the past a Laptop with 32-bit CPU that supported upgradable max 2x4B.

Hi:

According to chapter 1 of the service manual for the model series, the max memory is 2 x 8 GB.

Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)

I find that rather low for such a modern processor and chipset.

No doubt it would support at least 2 x 16 GB of DDR4-3200 memory.

I cannot find a Crucial memory report for that specific model, but the crucial memory report for this similar model indicates the max is 2 x 16 GB--and this model has the older AMD Ryzen™ 7 4700U processor.

@Paul: Thanks for the link to the spec doc. Reading it, I noticed the following in the Memory section (bold and  italics is mine):

Two SODIMM slots, not customer accessible or upgradeable supporting up to 16 GB of RAM

I don't understand this sentence. That  "not" is rather misplaced. The whole sentence doesn't read well. Looks like a typo or is it me missing the point?
