Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

So the laptop manual's Page 3 doesn't mention any support of SSDs but only states that

Supports 24 GB mSATA solid-state drive with system memory up to 8 GB (for use with select
computer models with Intel processors and switchable discrete graphics)

what does this mean? Can I replace my current HDD to a new SATA III SSD?

You're very welcome.

If you look at the service manual, there are no M.2 or mSATA SSD's listed as optional components.

Nor is there a removal and replacement procedure for either one of those devices in chapter 6 of the service manual.

So, I would say that your only option would be to do a direct swap of the mechanical hard drive for a 2.5" SSD.

If you want a recommendation, this would be a good one for a decent price...

Hi:

Yes, you can replace the current 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" x 7.0 mm SSD that meets your storage needs and budget.

Thanks Paul,

Can I also go for M.2 or mSATA SSDs ? where can I be sure about it ?

I want to upgrade to a 500 GB SSD.

Thanks a lot Paul.

One more thing to ask. Do you think if I can use the HDD (current 1 TB) + new SSD  combination using a Optical Bay HDD cady, considering my laptop configuration/available ports ?

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about doing anything like that.

I can tell you that the optical drive port will probably not be SATA III.

I suggest you start a new post regarding that question.
