You can look up the PC's chipset specs on the Intel site, or you can run the free utility that I zipped up and attached below.
Run the utility, and on the bottom left of the summary window, it should show you the drive speed and the drive controller speed.

Then you have to look up the specs on Intel's website.
Trust me, the drive controller your notebooks hard drive is SATA 3.
Intel chipsets starting with the mobile series 6 have SATA 3 controllers, and your notebook's mobile chipset is a series 8.
