Hello,

I recently opened my laptop and noticed that one of the two fans was not working. It had become quite dusty due to inactivity. I'm curious about common reasons for fans to stop working. Additionally, this explains why the remaining fan was blowing so loudly as it had to handle the entire job of cooling the CPU.

Any insights or advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Laptop cooling fans work very hard and are known to fail from time to time.  Sometimes you can 'fix' a stuck laptop cooling fan by using compressed ("canned") air to blow out all the accumulated dust, and if you know what you are doing, a tiny bit of silicone oil can do wonders.

If this doesn't work, the replacement part number for your cooling fan, according to: HP PartSurfer, is: L23895-001 "FAN FOR DSC".  You can purchase it online via various eCommerce sites, including AliExpress: Laptop CPU FAN For HP 15-CS000 15-CS0010TX 15-CS0011TX 15-CS0012TX 15-CS0013TX L25585-001 NS85B00-17....

Hope this was helpful.

Hello, thank you for your answer!

I've already tried using a vacuum cleaner to remove the dust, but it didn't seem to work. I'm considering buying canned air and giving that a try to see if it works better.

I have WD40 here but I think it should not be used for laptops 😂 I think I will buy some silicon oil for that job. Should I place a small amount of silicon oil inside the fan or where should I put it?

Thanks, I will try that.

Could it also be possible that I have to change something in the Windows hardware settings in order to make the fan work again? Or is that unlikely?

@MedicalAnimal,

I don't think so.  To the best of my knowledge, laptop cooling fan(s) are supposed to turn on at a moment's notice, and I am not aware that there are hardware settings that would allow you to (individually) turn on/off any cooling fan(s).
