Hi All
Hopefully a very quick question
A friend at work has asked me to look at their childs HP Pavilion B&O laptop / Netbook as it will not power up
I have removed the back plate and the battery from the laptop and attempted to see if the laptop will power up by just having it plugged into the mains with no battery attached like so many other laptops to see if it is a case that the battery is just dead but the laptop will not power on at all, even when battery is not connected and I am plugged into the mains
Not sure if I have a faulty charger unit rather than a faulty battery but I have searched the internet and I am unable to find out if these laptops require a battery to be attached at all times in order for it to work - Many other HP models dont but cant find exact thread re this
Dont want to start telling my friend to start investing in a new battery if the charger itself is knackered so my question is extremely basic
Does this laptop need a battery in at all times for the laptop to power on, even when plugged into mains via charger
Of course, it could be dead motherboard etc at fault but just at the moment attempting to eliminate the obvious 🙂
Many thanks in advance for any advice

Hi@Marmoo,
Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!
I see you are experiencing issues with the HP Pavilion Laptop not turning on.
I have a few recommendations.
- Try with an alternate charger and check if it works.
- Even if the Battery is gone bad the PC can turn on with the charger.
- If issue still persist with an alternate charger then it could be a hardware issue on the PC.
