Pavilion DV6-2158ee
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have an old HP Pavilion DV6-2158ee that has two memory modules 2Gb each. I want to upgrade to a total 8Gb ram and I was wondering if I can just put a single 8Gb module or does it have to be 2x4Gb? can't find info on the RAM.

here's a pic of one module:stock memory modulestock memory module

I hope anyone can help. I don't want to make the wrong purchase. Thanks in advance

Hi:

I cannot find any specs on your notebook.

Unless it has an Intel quad core processor, the max memory per slot is 4 GB.

2 x 4 GB would run better than 1 x 8 GB anyway since the 2 x 4 GB runs in dual channel mode and the 1 x 8 GB would only run in single channel mode.

I found this, just not sure if it was accurate:

[edit]

I'm asking because i tried a 4GB ram from an ideapad T420 and it looks similar to the spec of the modules installed on the DV6 but it did not work on the hp. might be a voltage issue (1.5 vs 1.35v), I'm not sure

Hi:

Looking at the picture, it should have worked.

It is very difficult to find the right memory for any HP notebook with an Intel series 5 chipset and processor.

It must be low density (8 little black memory chips on each side of the circuit board).

It must be no faster than PC3-10600, and it must be 1.5V, not 1.35V.

I can't tell what voltage that memory is that you have there but appearance-wise it seems to be correct.

See if you can find this memory in the Philippines...any one of those should work.
