HP Pavilion DV7-3150EQ
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I would like to upgrade the RAM in my HP Pavilion laptop. Currently it has installed 2x2GB RAM sticks, from Samsung, running at 1066Mhz. I would like to find out the maximum clock speed my motherboard supports for RAM.

Currently I know for sure that I need DDR3 RAM, running at 1.35V with 204 pins. I couldn't find anything in the product manual, except the part no. for HP replacements parts, however at this point I'd prefer third party RAM considering that I will be retiring the system soon.  I read/heard conflicting statements.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

The following link shows its specs

It currently has 2x2GB of RAM and you can upgrade to 2x4GB of RAM max.

You are saying it uses Samsung RAM, the best option is to buy same Samsung RAM specs but more capacity. RAM is running at 1066Mhz therefore you have to use 1066MHz. Faster speed may not work at all or will be downgraded back to 1066MHz.

The manual clearly says (on page 1-1):

2 customer-accessible/upgradable memory module slots
Supports dual-channel memory DDR3, 1066-MHz
Supports up to 8 GB of system RAM in the following configurations:
■ 8192-MB total system memory (4096 MB × 2, dual-channel)
■ 6144-MB total system memory (2048 MB × 1 + 4096 MB × 1)
■ 4096-MB total system memory (2048 × 2, dual-channel)
■ 3072-MB total system memory (2048 × 1024)
■ 2048-MB total system memory (1024 × 2, dual-channel)
■ 2048-MB total system memory (2048 × 1)
■ 1024-MB total system memory (1024 × 1)

Regards.
