HP Pavilion G4 1112TU
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Operating System:Windows 10 Pro 64x upgraded from Windows 7 Home Premium 64x

Model Number:HP Pavilion G4 1112TU

So the keyboard on my Pavilion G4 sometimes making weird things when pressed (Example,in Google Chrome when a key pressed Google Chrome would bring up the history tab/open new tabs/open up the printer window and etc) and also the P key sometimes doesn't work but when it work it would just spam "P". So do I need to replace my keyboard?

(Also I cannot type the question mark when holding shft and "Forward slash" key)

(EDIT:When I plug in a external keyboard, the external keyboard does the same thing too as the laptop keyboard. Does that mean I need to replace the motherboard?)

@AdiPlayZ Welcome to HP Community!

There are two common keyboard issues that can occur during the normal operation.

The first is the Num Lock key gets accidentally pressed, turning a portion of the keyboard into a number pad.

The other is the keyboard language gets inadvertently switched from its original language to another, resulting in some letters and numbers appearing different on the screen than how they are typed.

Check the Num Lock key, Set the keyboard language, Update the BIOS and device drivers:

If you experience is persistent with the keyboard errors, such as the keyboard frequently switching modes,

try updating the notebook's BIOS and device drivers.

For more information, see HP Notebook PCs - Locate and Install Updated BIOS, Drivers, and Software.

@AdiPlayZ I suggest you run a hardware test using the below steps and get back to me with the results:

Install the latest version of the HP Hardware diagnostics (UEFI) on your device using this link: Click here for details

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  • On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click Component Tests.
  • Click Keyboard Test.
  • Click Run once, or Loop until error.
  • While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.

If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you respond back to us.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.

Failure ID is GLHWK0-5N49Q8-MFPV5G-G56Q03

Also there are 81 bad keys and 3 good keys (Not going to list the key)

UPDATE:20 minutes ago, I purposely hit the keyboard with a hammer and the keyboard seems to be working again the keyboard failed in the uefi test But instead of 81 keys failed and 3 good keys, 3 keys are bad and 81 are working again (The 3 failed key are PS WIN and MN)

(Also the failure ID also changed so the failure ID is GLWK0-5N49Q9-MFPV5G-G5N003)
