HP Pavilion G6-1080SA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey everyone,

As the title reads, I've been looking in to possibly upgrading a G6 laptop that I own as a sort of reliable work horse that I won't use for much else than watching movies and playing music through, as it stands, the CPU currently in the G6-1080SA is a Intel Pentium P6200 2.13GHz, I've already upgraded the RAM to 8GB from spares, but the dual core Pentium without hyperthreading is really not keeping up. So I've been wondering if the laptop could support something like a 2nd gen Intel CPU, or is it a lost cause.

Thank you in advanced!

P.S.

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook:

ManualsLib - Makes it easy to find manuals online!

Chapter 1 has the list of supported processors.

Since your notebook's P6200 processor is a member of the Arrendale processor family, you are limited to upgrading to one of the Intel Arrendale 1st generation core processors.

The Intel Core i5-480M processor would be the best one you can upgrade to according to the manual.
