HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-ec1017np

I have an HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec1017np. The internal fans frequently ramp up to maximum speed and then shut off repeatedly, even when the system is idle. CPU and GPU temperatures remain low (CPU < 60°C, GPU < 40°C), there are no high-load tasks running, and the system has been cleaned of dust. I’ve already updated the BIOS, reset the EC (embedded controller), adjusted power settings, and tried third-party tools like NBFC, but nothing resolves the erratic fan behavior.
It seems the fan control logic may be reacting to power spikes or non-visible thermal sensors. Is there any known firmware issue or solution for this model?

@GonçaloMorais, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Reinstall Battery Drivers

In some cases, issues with battery drivers can affect fan behavior.

Open Device Manager and expand the Batteries section.

Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall device.

Restart your laptop. The driver will reinstall automatically.

Check for Software Conflicts

Disable or uninstall any other fan control software.

Check for background processes that might override settings.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Thank you very much — reinstalling the battery driver seemed to fix the issue.

Update: It did not fix the erratically fan starting, it seemed quiet for a minute, but started again.
