Hello everyone!

I'm looking to upgrade my Laptop and need some advice...

What options do I have?
I currently have a 1 GB HDD - ST1000LM035-1RK172 ... this is my only storage drive - Looking to get an M.2 Nvme SSD upgrade around 1 or 2 GB if possible ...

However, I wasn't sure if I could keep my old 1GB SATA drive, or if I needed to migrate all my data to the new M.2 Nvme SSD Drive.

I know that the manual  recommends the following dual storage Fonigurations:

16 GB PCIe M.2 Optane solid-state drive + 1 TB (7200 rpm) hard drive
256 GB PCIe, NVMe, TLC, M.2 solid-state drive + 1 TB (7200 rpm) hard drive
128 GB SATA-3, TLC, M.2 solid-state drive + 1 TB (5400 rpm) hard drive
128 GB PCIe, NVMe, TLC, M.2, solid-state drive + 2 TB (5400 rpm)
128 GB PCIe, NVMe, TLC, M.2, solid-state drive + 1 TB (7200 rpm)

What can I add to my 1 TB (5400 rpm) hard drive?...

...can it be a 1 or 2 GB M.2 Nvme SSD ?? or it just won't work...?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and advice...

The specs of your machine is

          https://support.hp.com/es-es/document/c06039333

It has SATA de 1 TB y 5400 rpm now. You can add 1TB or 2TB M.2 NVMe SSD to your machine such as https://www.crucial.com/ssd/p5-plus/ct2000p5pssd8/ct20104971

To get full benefit of mush faster, you have to migrate OS and apps (programs) to new M.2 drive. No point to keep M.2 for data. The most easy way is to

  • clone old HDD to new SSD,
  • remove HDD and run on SSD for a week or two,
  • format old HDD and put it back (otherwise machine may not boot from SSD).

Regards.

Thanks a bunch - Very helpful

.... so just to be sure ... is there a Max cap for storage ? under SSD HDD or M.2 Mvne ?

meaning, can I install any amount of TB that I want? or is there a max Cap that needs to be taken into account?

... I just want to know if at some point I can afford to install an NVME SSD of 4TB or even 8TB

Thanks again in advance for your help and advice
