Hi to all,
yesterday my Laptop decided not to power up and gave me a black screen without even trying to boot. Tried the recovery process without any solution so decided to format it with an USB. At the middle of the entire process it got stuck and gave me a black screen again. At this point I did the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI on the Hard Drisc and it gave me this result:
Smart Check: Passed
Long DST: Warning
I'm stuck now and the laptop doesn't boot. What is the course of action in this case?
P.S: The fan started to do an incredibly lound noise whenever it's turned on, may it be connected to the issue?

Hi
I suspect the Hard Disk is failing, or has failed.
First:- Turn off the computer, press and hold the PWR button for 4 seconds.
Then - Leave only keyboard and mouse connected, disconnect all externally connected
devices such as Docking Station, USB storage devices, displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
Next - Press and Hold the Power button for 15 seconds to Hard Reset.
Rinse and Repeat
AND/OR - Power on your PC, press Esc (repeatedly), then F2 at the prompt.
Choose System Tests (Fast Test does a 4 minute hardware check).
You should be prepared to replace the HDD and if possible have Recovery and Backups to hand.
If in doubt please ask.

Hi! Thank you very much for your answer. I tried to do every step you suggestedand didn't have any luck. Tried aswell to boot it while holding Win+B+Power Button but it gets stuck on the black screen for hours. Tried also to boot W10 from USB but still nothing. Tried to boot from EFI file, nothing!
I decided to open the laptop and swapped the 8GB RAM from one slot to the other, put it back together and still nothing... It doesn't boot from hard drive and it doesn't boot from external media. Tried to update the BIOS with USB following the official HP guide (https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c00042629#c00042629_manual-update) but I get stuck at "Press F2 key to open the Hardware Diagnostics UEFI menu." - there isn't such an option.
The only way I could start the PC was by creating a liveboot from Xubuntu, but when I start the installation tool, it get's stuck right before writing the files and it runs at 100% CPU with the fan hitting unbelievable speed for hours.
So I'm thinking to replace the 1TB HDD with a 1TB SSD... is it possible?
And also, is there any tool in Ubuntu to check the Hardware status on my computer?
