HP Pavilion 14 Laptop PC 14-dv2000 (4Z018AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I have a HP Pavilion Laptop 14-dv2504sa (6L7L8EA) with 8GB in it currently (4GB X 2) trying to run on Windows 11. I was wondering if I could possibly upgrade it to  32gb (16GB x 2) or is 16GB (8GBX2) as far as I can upgrade it. Thanks in advance.

Hi:

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates on your notebook's user guides page indicates that the notebooks with the onboard Intel graphics have two memory slots and can support up to 2 x 8 GB of DDR4-3200 memory.

HP Pavilion 14 Laptop PC 14-dv2000 - Setup and User Guides | HP® Support

That doesn't make much sense to me since the models with the discrete graphics adapters have one memory slot and can support 1 x 16 GB of DDR4-3200 memory.

You can run this command to see if installing 2 x 16 GB of memory would be possible in your notebook:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. After the command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Hi Paul_Tikkanen, Thanks very much for your help. I had before posting checked the Notebook Guide and it advised that it could take 2 x 8GB DDR4 3200 but I had thought that it should be able to take 2x16GB as the guide was not exactly the right one for my model. Thanks to you, the command you have provided has confirmed that the maximum capacity is 16GB. I replaced  the original 2 x4GB DDR4 3200 with 2x16GB DDR4 3200 to help improve performance. thanks very much, greatly appreciated 👍
